The artist Koen Taselaar was born in 1986 in Holland. He studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
His artwork combines sculpture, illustration, drawing and collage to create a whole which is brimming with details and information.
Fine lines cover his work with hundreds of patterns and textures, creating a dreamlike world which is sometimes reminiscent of cartoons. Bright colours punctuate hypnotic monochrome structures and merge the foreground and the background, sewing seeds of doubt for those viewing the work.
However, the artists still grabs our attention with realistic elements, particularly with sentences inserted into his work and also with the provocative titles of his artwork, which evoke daily decay: « Cigarette butt sluts » ...
