Suraj Adekola gained his initial recognition for his rooftops and market scene paintings. Born 1983, he obtained his Higher National Diploma in Painting from Auchi Polytechnic in 2007. His early works focused on the documentation of Nigerian cultural scenes but in his new body of work titled the Purity series, he has evolved his style, blurring the line between representation and abstraction.
His works have featured in several group exhibitions in his country (Nigeria) as well as auctions locally and more prominently at the Bonhams Africa Now (The Afren Collection) in 2015.
