Abraham Goldberg

Painter born in 1906 in Poland, he died in 1980 in Tel Aviv.

Abraham Goldberg was active lived in Israel and is known for the Jewish genre, religious painting. He was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel at the age of 16. Some time later, he left to study painting in the United States and Paris, two places he visited several times for long periods and where he presented his work.

Already at the time, he was known as an artist who painted the Jewish art of Eretz Israel. Despite his success in the United States and Paris and developing excellent working and friendship relationships with first-rate artists there, Goldberg preferred to return to Israel and continued here to create a special world. For him, Israel was the real home. He drew the world in ink, pastel and oil, and a significant part of his works are derived from miniature painting. During his lifetime, Abraham Goldberg called the Rembrandt Jewish.

Goldberg's paintings indicate that he understood the secrets of the Jewish soul better than many others, not only in terms of theme and plot, but above all he was able to give the viewer the feeling he had found. a means of expressing the invisible dimension of a disembodied soul.

He was able to create a deep impression using the deceptive and intriguing contrast between the different colors and the play of light and shadow. He worked as a director of the theater which he himself built. Among the darkest scenes, he was able to reveal to the viewer the patch of luminous desert, when he hides the non-important and integrates it in the background, an artist who knows well the secrets and the value of obscuration of abstract art.
