Georges Pacheco

Born in: 1964

Georges Pacheco is an artist born in 1964 in Portugal, he lives between Le Mans and Arles in France. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles (ENSP) with honors and obtained an M.Phil in Art Psychology and a masters in experimental psychology of perception at Paris X University.

Human and his individual, social problems are Pacheco's favorite themes for his photos. With his
« l’autoportrait unique de l’autre » approach, he tries to create an identity portrait according to the psychological model, which tries to capture certain meaningful fundamentals of the subject. He models it and finds himself face to face with himself, making a self-portrait of himself, therefore avoiding the mediation of the photographer.

The questions of representing oneself, the link between photography and his subject, and the photography act are at the heart of Georges Pacheco's research. Through his travels, he tries to confront different types of everyday life and is fascinated by humans.

His work has been exhibited in several places, such as the Galerie du Château d'Eau in Toulouse, Portuguese photography center in Porto, Centre d’art contemporain Stimultania in Strasbourg and Galerie Immix in Paris. He received many awards especially: Le Prix de l’Atelier Voies Off 2007 in Arles, le Prix Jeunes Talents SFR/Arles 2010, le Prix de la Photographie Paris PX3. He was also part of the 16 finalists for the Prix Photographie de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts en 2009.
