Presentation

I’m Andrei Cristian Petrescu, Bucharest born Photographer, now residing in New York City.

During the last five years, I have lived between Milan and Bucharest, continuing my career in photography and pursuing my own artistic statement.

The foundation of my work is based in male and female identity, my own anthropological study of the characters who draw my attention. My fascination with light has a constant presence in my photos, switching between the studio and nature, and creating new ways to bring the two together.

(Light is everything: life, knowledge, information from a distant place, mystical and yet so natural at the same time. Light is my father, mother, God, best friend, a necessity, an addiction, beauty...)

Through the years, I’ve learned that true beauty is not a superficial thing, but comes from a place more complex than just the surface of a person, place, or object, and that indescribable truth is the spark I wish to capture behind the lens of my camera.

A person is truly: an intricate - multi faceted - singular universe waiting to be explored.

Beginning as an Actor (known for a critically acclaimed indie: Elevator [screened at 26 film festivals world wide, winning 7 awards]) and a Model (who signed with four agencies around Europe: London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Milano), I gained great insight when I eventually found myself behind the lens of a camera in 2008. Having had experience in front of the camera as both actor and model allowed me to better understand the people I worked with while I was behind the camera.

I believe the process of creation should be playful, comfortable, and free. The relationships I create with my collaborators are sacred to me.

I began my photography journey In Italy with Marco Glaviano, my maestro. This man became my guide through the studio and in the editing room. I have spent the last ten years working on the mastery of photography by his side in Milano Studio Digital.

I found myself organizing Marco’s archive, which contains more than 50 years of photographic history and helping him organize his exhibitions:

M.I.A. Fair (2011); Marco Glaviano, palazzo Morando (2012), La Palermo di Marco Glaviano (2013). I was also part of the editing process of Marco’s Photobooks: 100% Capri (2009), Marco Polo (2008), St. Barth – 40th Anniversary (2013), Roberta Mancino (2014) and Taghazout (2009).

In the past 10 years, we have travelled together for different shoots and exhibitions throughout Europe.
