Presentation

Originally from Slovakia, Andrej Jakab is a sculptor born in 1950. He graduated from the "School of Electrical Engineering" in Bratislava, where he pursued studies in electrical engineering.

Andrej Jakab works the glass with perfectionism and meticulousness, in an "intimate conversation" according to him. "This demands a lot of patience and humility", he declares. Combining an instinctive approach with tecnological knowledge, he composes a singular form and a special perception. Andrej Jakab emphasizes the abstraction of geometric principles. His work stirs up curiosity thanks to the relationship between the interior and the exterior of geometric volumes, its clarity, soft colors and its reference to the crytalline origin and mystical infinitive of glass.

Andrej Jakab exhibits his work internationally. His pieces are part of numerous collections, such as that at the Corning Museum of Glass in the United States, at the Ernsting Stiftung Coesfeld in Germany and at the Museum of Jan Van der Togt in Amsterdam, as well as in private collections in the United States, Japan and Denmark among others.
