Antoni Taulé

Born in: 1945

Antoni Taulé is a painter born in 1945 in Sabadell (Barcelona). He exhibited for the first time at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sabadell in 1966. After graduating from Barcelona, he devoted himself definitively to painting in 1973. He later made sets for the theater. He lives and works between Paris and Formentera (Balearic Islands).

Even if he has never admitted it, Antoni Taulé's work is to be compared with the New Figuration Movement.

Antoni Taulé's work, which includes his paintings and photographs, has as purpose the work of shadows and light. This game of contrasts allows him to hide a part of the scene, to make it almost abstract, intensifying thus the concepts of presence and absence. Dark, empty almost abandoned interiors of man are traversed by a dazzling and uncontrollable light, which brings to light what seemed to be forgotten or abandoned.
Antoni Taulé also works in the world of theater and directing, where he focuses once again on the shadows and lights, his true obssessions. Among all his collaborations in the world of theater, he has notably done the set decoration for the Ballet for Rudolf Noureev at the Garnier Palace in Paris and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Nathalie Sarraute has called him to decorate her theater sets in Paris, London, Venice, Madrid, Barcelona and New York.

Antoni Taulé exhibited his first works in his hometown in 1966. Once in Paris in 1965, he did an exhibition ten years laters at the Mathias Fels Gallery, and then at the Beaubourg Gallery.
Several retrospective exhibitions have been dedicated to his work, notably in 1979 at the Salo del Tinell in Barcelona, In 1983 at the Hastings Foundation in New York, in 1986 in Japan, in 1987 at the Goya Museum of Castres, in 2006 at the Villa Tamaris in La Seyne-Sur-Mer and in 2010 in Barcelona at the Can Framis Museum.
As an internationally renowned artist, his works are permanently present in the United States, in France at the National Center for Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, in Spain at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona and in Japan .
