Isabel Muñoz

Born in Barcelona in 1951, Isabel Muñoz is a world-renowned photographer. Her favorite techniques are platinum prints and extra-large formats, which she uses in her approach to studying mankind to reinforce her message of passion for the body. At the age of 20, she moved to Madrid where she decided to devote herself to photography by enrolling in the Photocentro workshop. In 1986, she presented her first Toques exhibition at the French Institute in Madrid. The exhibitions succeeded one another for the next 20 years. She was a member of the VU collective. His black and white photographs are devoted to the human being, through body fragments or images of bullfighters, dancers or warriors. She tells us about the body in all its sensuality, and restores its beauty in the subtleties of platinum prints. Isabel Muñoz is in the collections of the European House of Photography (MEP, Paris), the New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York), the Foto Colectania (Barcelona), the Cervantes Institute (Mexico City, Guatemala City, La Paz and Shanghai), the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum (Madrid) and the Fundación Canal (Madrid). Recognized by a large audience, the work of Isabel Muñoz has been rewarded with numerous prizes and distinctions. Recently, she received two World Press Photo Awards (in 2000 and 2004), the Bartolomé Ros Award (PHotoEspaña, 2009), the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (2009) , the UNICEF Spain Awareness Raising Award (2010) and the Fundación DEARTE Prize (2012) and the National Photography Prize, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (2016).
