Anna Maria Diaz-Perez

Born in: 1965

Spain

Biography
Returning to Spain from Brazil soon after the birth of their daughter, Anna Maria’s parents chose a new home opposite the residence of Joan Abello, a well-known Catalan painter. This incidental act would turn out to have a profound effect on the young Anna Maria’s future, as it was under the influence of her creative new neighbour that she found her calling; Painting. Studying first with Joan before going on to Art School, Anna Maria Diaz-Perez then spent a ten year period lecturing in Art History. Alongside her teaching however, the multidisciplinary nature of her training enabled Anna Maria Diaz-Perez to explore various methods of expression, including most notably works involving the decoration of public spaces. It is this interest in architecture and a desire for new material that drives the artist’s love of traveling; using her creative talent to represent the cities she visits on canvas. A world of colour and abstraction is thus opened up to us as she reflects on her travels using paint and collage, interspersing leaves of gold and silver that trap and refract the light that enters. The genius of Anna Maria Diaz-Perez is her ability to bring out the emotions of architecture, weaving sensation with structure to give a new outlook on the beauty of the City.
