Born in 1965, Catherine Javel graduated from the Beaux-Arts Versailles (France) in 2007. Engaged in environmental protection, she works with natural elements and defines the sea as "her matrix".
Living on an island, Catherine Javel transcribes in her works the diversity and the richness of the natural environment of Ibiza.
Her work is a permanent search for techniques that could allow her to capture and transpose the shapes and colors that nature offers us. The artist uses natural elements as her tools: she placesher canvaseson rocks, soaks them in water, tries to use sunlight for printing, the movement of the sea and waves.
The algae serve as a brush oras ink with their juice, but also as a subject for printing; the sand is used for its abrasive effect while salt just changes the ink and the color. Once these elements are applied on the canvas, Catherine Javel manages to capture a living snapshot of this elusive nature.
