Presentation

Gonzalo Sicre Maqueda was born in Cadiz in 1967, he lives and works in Cartagène.

Gonzalo Sicre is one of the most influential Spanish painters of the 90's, during which he experimented with borders of realism and hyper-realism.

One of the main basis in Gonzalo's painting is the portrayal of scenes or living areas with no human beings. The spectator might feel a little awkward in front of his paintings, as if the characters had to run away, but where did they go?

Bordering photographic processing and realistic painting, Gonazalo's work gives a lot of importance to light. Both on the interior and exterior, a common element in his work, even if the object can take the place of the protagonist at times, light still remains an important aspect.

Gonzalo Sicre's work is without any doubt a lot like Edward Hopper's work. Indeed, all his paintings portray the same sorrowful and gentle expression, each composition is organized and harmonious in the same fashion. Once the awkward feeling is over, the spectator is finally pacified by the peacefulness of the environment before his eyes.
