Angel Mateo Charris, also known as Charris, is a Spanish artist born in 1962 in Cartagena. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Valencia.

He visited New York for the first time in 1988, where he became interested in the paintings of Edward Hopper and the work of several artist from the Hudson Rivers School.

Strongly influenced by pop art and the visual language of black American cinema, Angel Mateo Charris' pieces often make allusion to art history as well as to several writers of literature. The ideas and concepts of the Postmodern movement are often present in his work, inspired by the work of Mark Rothko, Edward Ruscha and Giorgio de Chirico.

Angel Mateo Charris' work is present in numerous international collections and foundations such as the Bancaixa Collection, the museum Reina Sofia National Art Center and the Cola-Cola Foundation, among others.
