Ramon Lopez

I was born in 1961 in Alicante (Spain) with an artistic soul. My father and my grandfather were professional photographers. Since I was a child, my playground was the darkroom in the lab and my favorite magic trick, the image that gradually appeared on photo paper! After the music arrived, then my installation in Paris where I live and work since 1985. I consider myself a painter and a free creator. When I make a canvas it is not the aesthetic aim that matters to me, but the questioning it conceals, the ambiguity of the visible and the hidden. My practice of contemporary jazz and improvisation during these last forty years of concerts and recordings around the world, allowed me to approach painting with all the experience that I have accumulated through my musical questions, of my numerous collaborations with traditional musicians, plastic artists, actors and choreographers. Painting is a project that has matured in parallel with my music for a very long time, without my being really aware of it. I only feel good when I paint or play. Over the past fifteen years, I have devoted more and more time to her and currently music and painting are and will be linked in my life forever.
