K. Oldal has studied Design history and particularly Scandinavian Design at the university during five years.

For the last couple of years, she proposes a very original reinterpretation of a famous Swedish symbol: the Dalecarlian horse or Dalahorse (Dalahäst). This national symbol links to Viking mythology and the ancient Gods Freyr and Odin. She has named this original creation 'Oldalahäst' after her maternal grandparents and very especially in tribute to her grandfather who to seduce his dearest (very keen on originality) invented his own surname (Oldal) and gave it to her as a wedding gift.

Each horse is a unique handmade piece of wood (Swedish pine from Nusnäs), with a modern and pure shape, it has the signature of the artist. Some of them are covered in gold, copper and silverleaves and  are tagged with graffitis, other with handpicked flowers that she presses and dries in a traditional way, between pages of old books. The drying time is between one to three months. The flowers come from different places that she loves, like the archipelago of Stockholm, the mountains of Provence, the riviera of Liguria and Tuscany.

All the pieces are covered by several coats of UV-protection and varnish to finish the process and make them resistant. The Oldalahäst is a product filled with wholehearted passion combining both tradition and modernity with handicraft and design and a great sensibility for colors.
