DANILLO CURETTI Daniel, known as Danillo Curetti, a young contemporary artist of Swiss origin, brought an innovative breath to Faience in 1983. He collaborated there for almost six years before leaving Longwy in November 1989 to found a pottery factory in Switzerland. From his passage emanates an Art Deco wind, Curetti masters design and material. He works in a fairly large flat and often uses the large so-called colonial balls, created in 1931, or large cups (form 1643). His very fruitful inspiration attracted a large audience, who sometimes confused his pieces with creations from the 1920s and 1930s. Among his famous decorations, let us quote Paul and Virginie, specially created for Ted Lapidus, the signs of the Zodiac, the panthers, tigers, Normandy, the Eiffel Tower, Iceberg, Barbara, Woman with the necklace… He also imagines shapes like the Marylin Ball which combines enamels and trimmings and brings Art Deco wall lights up to date. All these pieces are in limited edition, they bear his signature. Danillo Curetti returned to Longwy in 1991, recalled by the Kostka family, new owners of the Faïencerie. He died prematurely in 1993 at the dawn of his forties, he rests in Toulon. For 10 years, he breathed into the secular manufacture a wind of modernism stemming from Art Deco. Its decorations were a great alternative to the traditional Japanese-style decorations (cf. “passion and collections” notebooks by Dominique Dreyfus). Curetti has retained a public sensitive to his art, his creations are still highly appreciated and sought after and his achievements on colonial balls are often out of print. The Faïenceries continue to offer the works of Curetti on new Flo, Boules Midi… or in the new black, white, gold and platinum 'Curetti Recoloré' collection.
