Jan Jandeart

Jan Hrdinka-Jandeart is a self taught abstract painter, born in Czech Republic on 23 March 1973. His first strong fascination to art is related to a photograph, published in a local magazine, when a 10 year old boy saw a painting by Salvador Dali. Jan was very impressed by the surrealistic artwork and this is how his inner love for art was awaken. Since then he admired the world of art, but never tried to draw or paint himself. As a child he probably lacked self confidence and later, as a young man he had to strive supporting himself and his family since the young age.

Jan started working right after school as life was not easy in the country that has just liberated from communist regime and the influence of the Soviet Union. In search for a wealthier life Jan moved to Switzerland in 1994. He started with simple jobs but mastered local language quite quickly and with good references became an employee of DHL office in 2000.

Jan covered his first canvas with paint in 2015. The inspiration came from... the argument with his artist friend who was struggling to find an idea for a new painting. Jan suggested he should portray the “Good" and the “Evil". A friend insisted that it is not as easy as it may seem, so Jan decided to try painting it himself, just to prove his friend wrong. He did not stop painting ever since then and spends a lot of time at his cosy studio near Lucerne. His abstract paintings are inspired by music and each artwork has a title of a certain song that dictated colours and forms.

In 2017 Jan participated in his first group exhibition “Mixed Art" at Basel Art Centre. His artworks were very well received and are already owned by several private collectors in Switzerland.

Jan has a 20 year old daughter Jaqueline and lives in Lucerne.
