Syrian Arab Republic

Born in Damas in 1958, Nassouh Zaghlouleh obtained a degree in visual communication at the Beaux-Arts faculty of Damas in 1982. He also obtained a degree in photography at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1987.

Nassouh taught photography at the Institut supérieur de l'image et du son in Paris between 2003 and 2007 and the techniques of photography at the Beaux-Arts faculty in Damas in 1983. As the Head of the visual communication department at the Arab league, the artist also taught photography, video and graphic design at the international university of Syria.
For more than 10 years, the photographer worked on documentaries and took more than 80 000 photos during these filmings. However his work was only exhibited from 2007 with the series "From Paris to Damas". Since then, he has participated to many exhibitions in Europe and in the Middle-East.

Damas city is a predominant topic in his artwork, capturing the atmosphere of the deserted streets, the detail of a door. The vision that he offers enables the spectator to enter in the intimacy of this town, its history and captures its unique essence.

Lastly, the artist had to deal with threats that forced him to cancel his participation to the collective exhibition organized in Barcelona about Syrian everyday life.
