Garth Bowden (b. 1970) grew up in London where he studied Fine Art and Sculpture at Camberwell Art College and Chelsea School of Fine Art. He now lives between France and England. Garth has a multi-disciplinary practice between painting, photography, sculpture, installations and design, and works thematically rather than in any one technique or medium.

« Like painting, photography is a language in itself, with its own lexicon outside of words and has the capacity to convey emotions, sensations and experience.. My subject matter may vary, but I try to explore and convey whatever my subject matter is in a simple and direct way, without unnecessary embellishment ». Garth regularly exhibits around Europe, recently in London, Berlin, Zurich, and Paris. His work has been selected by Saatchi online curators Rebecca Wilson and Evangeline Delacare several times.

Garth's heritage is from a family of renowned artists: his great great grand-father is Belgian neo-impressionist painter Theo Van Rysselberghe - whose work can be seen here at Musée d'Orsay - and his great grand-father is the French author and Nobel Prize winner André Gide. Although they may not seem directly connected, his work and that of Van Rysselberghe and Gide share and value the same spirit of investigation and enquiry in art and in life in general. Their consistent pursuit of what they believed in, as well as the rigor and diversity of their practice has always been an inspiration to the artist.
