Sam Hodge (born in UK, 1963) is an artist with a background in natural sciences and painting conservation, which she studied at Cambridge University and The Courtauld Institute of Art. While working as a painting conservator she also studied fine art at the City Literary Institute and etching at Morley College and the Princes Drawing School. In 2008 she began to focus on making her own artwork and took her first studio.
Sam Hodge makes paintings and prints drawing on her knowledge of how things are made and how they fall apart. She explores the role of chance and accident in these processes, and how we respond to this uncertainty and make sense of it – making collections that give value to the selected and connections that imbue the ambiguous with meaning.
