Sara Sammakia is a highly sought after artist in the exclusive and privileged world of celebrity. Her work adorns the walls of some of the most famous people on the planet today, including Harry Styles, Chris Brown, Joe Jonas and most recently Miley Cyrus. Working primarily as a commercial figurative artist Sara works heavily with popular iconography.
Born and raised in England and the Middle East, Sara was a gifted artist from a young age. Throughout the years, she has developed her distinct style of oil painting, incorporating celebrity icons into her pieces and combining them amongst relevant imagery to create mood and emotion whilst still portraying a strong aesthetic appeal.
Sara’s paintings investigate celebrity culture, popular brand imagery and advertising taking in a critical view of political, social and contemporary cultural issues. Her works are an amalgamation of comic superhero mythology, iconic children’s toys, appealing brand names and totems of art history to create a visual representation of the evolution of modern popular culture.
Sara’s paintings are a juxtaposition of images, comprised together presenting a personal explanation on our contemporary consumer culture. Sara reconstructs recognisable icons from her own perspective whilst dismantling the American dream. Sara engages subjects as diverse as the violation of innocence, religion, fashion, music, toys, sex symbols, decay upon western society, celebrities, obsession, adoration, perfection and greed, arranging them into current conceptually layered pieces. Sara is a Fine Art graduate and a full time artist with her originals, prints and commissioned work available exclusively through Hawkins & Blue.
