Born in 1947, Michael Sorne is an English painter.
Michael Sorne gets his inspiration from the master painters of the twentieth century but he does not want his work to be categorized in a certain artistic movement. His work does not correspond to any particular style, because his paintings follow the evolution of his own life. His approach to dimension, material and color has change since he began his career and throughout his ten years of career. The painter approaches abstract expressionism, influenced by the pieces of Joan Mitchell.
Close to the literature and poetry of Mallarme and Rene Char, he often addresses the subject of death and life. In his pieces, color is the central element. His last pieces show a striking contrast between bright colors and a dark background. His pictorial style is characterized by energetic strokes and large flat areas, symbolizing the painter's internal fight between his desire to live and his awareness that death is closer each day.
Recently, Michael Sorne has completed several series of paintings over a short period of time. In these pieces, we can see how his techniques have evolved and how he is always trying to depict the spirit of life through movement.
