Steve Lyons

Steve Lyons (born 1958) is an American artist from Portsmouth, Ohio. The painting was imposed on him from childhood, fascinated by the capacity for the escape it provided.

With a degree in journalism, his career first led him to become a corporate writer before devoting himself fully to painting. He lives and works in Chatham, Massachusetts.

A passionate artist, he has been developing a unique painting for the past twenty years, off the beaten track. Steve Lyons' paintings vibrate with energy and are part of an abstract expressionist vein.

His work is original and dense. It takes the steep and intriguing paths of creation.

He invents a language populated by signs and presences to be deciphered: an invitation to plunge into a metaphorical and poetic universe. Affecting an organic painting, the artist seeks to give a physical presence to his works. He thus developed a painting all in material and in the superposition of layers where the canvases become paintings-sculptures.

This empatement, inherited from the traditional technique of the Italian impasto, gives a relief and a presence to the work. The painting then becomes a truly tactile pictorial experience.
