Connections in Art
From October 21, 2020 to December 30, 2020
Martín Revolo, who signs his work under his pseudonym “Shulka", is a self-taught artist, born in Lima, Peru. Currently based in San Francisco, CA, self-assertion and expression of principle are important components of Martín's artistic life.
Connections between his art and his early life are always present. For Martín the inner necessity is still the basis and source of nourishment for his art. He resides in all of his work. Though the viewer may take a different meaning from his images, all have experienced a part of the narrative that is the artist "Shulka" himself.
Martín: "My work travels through an experimental release of spontaneous energy as I consider the experience as art, and the physical object the result of the journey. This experimentation opens new technical and conceptual processes that push the boundaries of traditional photography, painting and printmaking, while also attempting to tell a story through imagery that is both real and surreal. The story continues to grow as I rely on my conscious and subconscious to create and transfer those thoughts to an image. It is from that process that I find myself being most present."
