Rebecca Chou

Artist Statement

Rebecca is a Chinese American visual artist based in both the San Francisco Bay Area and Paris, France where she exhibits frequently. Her favorite media are acrylic paint on canvas. At times the supports are wood panels, aluminum and paper. She engages in photography as an extension of the visual image tools. Rebecca paints through her mind's eye, offering a visual experience that opens to visual vibration, a reflective place or time and resonance. Her works are informed by art history, popular culture, new technology, scientific concepts and space explorations. 

Since 2015, she primarily works in reductive abstraction or constructivism. She finds resonance with Nobel neuroscientist Eric Kandel's concept of reductionism. In Kandel's 2016 book “Reductionism in Art and Brain Science"… reductionism―the distillation of larger scientific or aesthetic concepts into smaller, more tractabl components―has been used by scientists and artists alike to pursue their respective truths....

" Her paintings invite viewers to connect regions in their brains for recall, discovery, conceptual, structural and emotional resonance. Rebecca also brings to her art a corporate executive experience from technology companies in the Silicon Valley. Her academic degrees are Bachelor of Art in English and Master of Art in Counseling and attended the SF Art Institute. She is an Executive Coach and Leadership Consultant and has served two decades on the Board of Directors, Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA), Silicon Valley, California.
