Mark Beard

Born in: 1956

United States

Mark Beard is an American artist, he was born in 1956 in Salt Lake City. He lives and works in New York. In the same lines as Marcel Duchamp and Rross Selavy, Beard created five alter egos, these include Bruce Sargeant, an English artist, whose works stand out due to their homo-erotic and sporty aspects, but also Professor Hippolyte Alexandre Michallon, a French firefighter painter from the 19th century and two avatars, Edith Thayer Cromwell, an avant-gardist American artist and Brechtolt Steeruwitz, a German expressionist painter with a complex personality who came right out of the artist's imagination. Mark Beard paints gloried, sculpted but romantic bodies which have two influences: Greek-Roman art (athletic look of the Greek gods) and elegantly romantic. The masculine nude regains his prestige through his structured and muscular arms, the classical ideal comes into being again, man is portrayed as the archetype of human elegance, namely "exemplum virtutis". Mark Beard combines the beautiful with the good and portrays these beings as models of virtues, and therefore they closely fit with the Platonic conception. An object of desire, or holy figures, these men are the proof of universal beauty. Mark Beard is known as the fresco painter for Abercrombie & Fitch stores in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Tokyo.
