Rosa Maria Unda Souki

Born in: 1977


Rosa Maria Unda Souki is a Venezuelan artist born in Caracas in 1977, she currently lives and works between Paris, France and Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

She studied at first at the School of Fine Arts of the Institute Armando Reveron (IUESAPAR) in Caracas and then obtained a Masters degree in art and image technology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She focused her research in photography and video and settled in Paris in 2004.

Her father introduced her to art history, literature and the popular and erudite music culture of Brazil and Latin America. She dives in a world full of drawing boards and china ink. Her pieces have a naive style while borrowing a lot from impressionists compositions and their research on perspective.

She has won several prizes such as the first painting award of Prix Signatures, a competition created in 1959 under the direction of Andre Malraux, the special prize of the Jury at the 56 Salon of Contemporary Art in Montrouge, Jury was presided by Antoine de Galbert, founder and president of the Maison Rouge.

Her work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions at the Palace of Tokyo in Paris, At the Casa Museo Federico Garcia Lorca in Spain and she participated as one of the artists representing France at the Biennal Itinérante Jeune Création Européenne (JCE).
