Zalez

Born in: 1985

France

Zalez is a young French stencil artist. He lives and works in Toulouse.

Zalez is a a French Street artist, a hyperactive person always in search of new inspiration. After studying Design, Achitecture, and finaly Visual Arts, he starts to do Graffiti with a group of artists named "Zone Agréee Libertaire Eduquée". They take Toulouse by storm and draw in public spaces, producing exhibitions and happening during the 2000?s.

He starts to paint on canvas, has numerous exhibitions and has galleries in England, Spain, Hungary and Hong Kong. Zalez develops his drawing technique using stencils and colors in his studio. He uses various tools and mediumsand experiments in a creative mix: drawing, stencil, ink, acrylic paint and sculpture.

Zalez focuses in his works on the woman figure to which he adds an intentionally provocative message. The shocking and controversial elements show the originality of the artist. The nudity of the subjects, depicted sometimes in exaggerated positions conveys a contemporary vision of the body of the woman. The public has access to an unexpected intimacy and are faced with their personal or society taboos.

Plaing his work in a paradox between classicism, drawing and his personal attitude towards the Nude as a genre, and the contemporary street art from which he draws techniques and modern issues, Zalez provokes us to think. There is, in his work, a subtle balance between classical esthetics and a reactive approach. The woman or the women he depicts take full ownership of their bodies, the object within the object becomes the vector of the message, shows a choice and is not passive.
