  • About the artwork

As we look our way through these fields, the first impression is that of the great outdoors, the open air; we can feel the thrill of the wind, feel the vibrations of nature and all its contrasts.

This impression comes first of all from the composition of the painting itself, consisting of two parts, the vast sky occupying most of the picture and the earth being reduced to a quarter of the low composition.

Looking at the work, we are drawn to a detail, a multitude of details in fact, small squares of paint swarming on the surface of the painting, like a pixelated image, dotted with splinters of light. The painting consists entirely of "particles" animating the picture of the painting. These "pixels", which are not, dissolve contours and precision and, paradoxically, make this pictorial Nature more present, more alive. Therefore, comes to our mind the idea that something bathes, envelops the constituents of this landscape of Aubrac.

It's energy. This treatment of the pictorial surface evokes the crackling of nature and returns us to the wave-particle duality of light. We then touch on the physical concepts underlying these paintings. Because in these paintings, it is not only fields, but the multitude of fields that surround us daily, omnipresent - energy fields - electromagnetic fields, earth field, Higgs field, cosmic radiation...

If some are directly perceptible, like the electromagnetic radiation of visible light, other fields are less obvious to us because none of our senses are directly sensitive to it. This is the case of the Earth's magnetic field, the electric field induced by cosmic radiation, static electric fields created by clouds whose droplets of water are charged in static electricity by friction with the air. We are mostly insensitive, except when certain phenomena betray their presence (for example, lightning and lightning in stormy weather).

All these fields exist in our environment without our being able to feel them. Scientists know how to create, detect, and modulate them to become carriers of information. Through his painting, Palacio transports us, without our knowledge and in a very poetic way, towards a quantum universe. It gives us a feeling of the invisible by painting what we do not see.

Patrice Palacio

Born in: 1977 France
Patrice Palacio is a French self-taught painter born in Montpellier in 1977.

His work is a bridge between painting, photography and screens. It is a reconciliation, not an opposition between tradition and modernity, between archaic painting and technology. It is always the same thing that drives him to paint: the desire to show the brilliance of life and talk about all the tricks, all the interfaces and the lies we need to catch a glimpse of the suspended time of a flash, of what reality is.

Patrice Palacio held exhibitions in Paris, London, New York, Chicago, Dubaï, Toronto, Miami, Basel, Barcelona, Berlin, Frankfort… He created in 2013 the Fragmental Art movement and wrote its manifesto. He considers the canvas as a screen and tries to make visible the way we see reality with minimal ways (no color, disturbed surface, pixel etc…) or experimental paintings (chemical and optical).
