Marcin Kowalik

Born in: 1981 Poland
Marcin Kowalik is a Polish painter born in 1981 in Zamosc, Poland.
Between 2001 and 2006, he studied in the department of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow in the studio of Professor Adam Wsiolkowski and obtained a Doctorate under his tutelage in 2009. He currently works as a teacher in his studio.

Kowalik says he is influenced by the work of Picasso, who he considers as a master of augmented reality. Kowalik was interested at first in the Cubist period of the Spanish artist, especially in the composition of spatial forms and their fragmentation.

Kowalik's work is dominated by abstract shapes and empty spaces while combining bright colors, illusions, line precision and geometric shapes. His work is not anthopological, man can be rarely seen or without a specific identity. In his work the artist examines the impact of the image on the observer, he is fascinated by their limitless interpretations, the perception of space and the variety of the world.

Kowalik's work is driven by his perception of reality and it includes paintings, installations, objects and performances. He works as an organizer, curator and artistic director.
He has participated in about 40 exhibitions in Poland an abroad. He has done more than 20 solo exhibitions in Hamburg, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Dublin, Warsaw, Krakow (National Museum).
