Cameroon Born in: 1997

Moustapha Baidi Oumarou was born in 1997 in Maroua, Cameroon. Very early on, he developed a sense of observation that allowed him to approach life with an open mind, which was quite rare for his age. He was described as a "wise", mature and friendly boy.

His appetite for drawing led him to work in a silkscreen printing workshop after primary and secondary school. Encouraged by his friends and family, he turned to painting and created his first works as a self-taught artist. In 2013, at the age of 17, he won the 3rd prize in plastic arts at the Yawalta Maroua festival. This award would be decisive for him because, the following year, he went on to join the plastic arts club of the University of Maroua.

Today, Mustapha is a promising artist. A conscious and humanist painter, he gradually moved away from the conformist rules of portraiture to develop a more personal style in accordance with his vision of the world.

Moustapha Baidi Oumarou is engaged in his art to express and advocate a more just and open world, and make the voices of the most vulnerable or forgotten heard. His painting is a reflection of himself; positive and optimistic.

He mostly uses acrylic, pastel, charcoal, India ink and collages to depict the men and women who inspire him and whose story he tells. Moustapha Baïdi Oumarou has his own style just like those of Basquiat or Salifou Lindou; artists that he loves and who have marked him.
