  • About the artwork

    Artwork sold in perfect condition

This is a painting the artist created for the "ICÔNE GOLD - CHONMAGE & VENUS" exhibition that was held in Paris in 2017. "Chonmage" signifying the symbolic hairstyle you see on samourais images, Takeru depicted figures from the 1800s on a golden background. The upheavals of the last days of the Shogunate marked the end of one era in Japan and the beginning of a new era, the Meiji era. The following year, in 1869, a samurai accompanied the French consul from Japan in Paris. This samurai then found himself witness to the outbreak of the Franco-Prussia in 1870 ...

A samurai in Paris. What were his dreams? And his ambitions? Takeru is projecting himself in this samurai figure. The woman seems like the Venuses Takeru often depicts in his paintings but this time she is wearing a Japanese traditional kimono perhaps to disguise herself in the lives with the samurais.

Takeru Amano

Japan Born in: 1977

Takeru Amano is a Japanese artist born in 1977.

Takeru has been in contact with the world of art since his childhood, and in 1997, he moved to New York where he studied engraving for three years. Upon his return to Tokyo, he mixed the new influences from the big apple with the Japanese pop culture which gradually lead to defining his own style.

Using classicism and modernity in his creations, Takeru Amaro combines accuracy of the line to an explosive color palette from the pop culture.

His works have been part of several solo and group exhibitions, specially in Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
