Virginie De Barbeyrac

Born in: 1974

France

Translation in progress

Virginie is a self-taught and intuitive painter who expresses herself through drawing and painting since her childhood.

She began painting with oil on kraft paper and collage on canvas, but now expresses herself mainly with charcoal and acrylic paint.

His sources of inspiration lie in the expression, that of faces, as that of bodies. Widely influenced and inspired by expressionist artists, past and present, she seeks to extricate herself from the simple figure to create a presence, to grasp ambiguity, movement, interiority, fragility.

His work often expresses a certain duality. Virginie likes to capture the individual in his inner beauty as in his darkest sides. It thus illustrates sadness, abandonment, as energy and determination.

Preferring the raw, removed and spontaneous side in the line, she rarely conducts preparatory studies. She thus shapes her pictorial language directly on canvas, on paper or even on cardboard, a medium that she likes because, like the kraft of her beginnings, she resonates with the notion of fragility that is dear to her.
