An En Plein Air Painting originally titled: "De Manteling bij Domburg" in Dutch. Forest at De Manteling Domburg, is a tranquil painting of a walking route through the classic country estates with forests, formally known as The Manteling van Walcheren. Manteling is a special park area with forests that diverge into routes through stretches of dunes. Nowhere else in Europe do deciduous trees grow so close to the coast. In this area, you can simultaneously hear a nightingale singing and a seagull screeching. From the 17th to the 19th century, the Middelburg elite lived here in the summer; in the 20th century many houses were permanently inhabited, and parts of it were established as a national park. Staatsbosbeheer manages several stately country estates such as Westhove, Berkenbosch and Duinbeek in the Manteling. Jeanette often paints from these locations.

En Plein air means Jeanette stood in the forest as she was painting. She painted for hours until it was done, capturing the moving nature and the wind blowing through the trees. Usually, Jeanette uses her sculpting techniques of intuitively following the material until there is balance. The landscape and the clouds follow her usual method of painting until she achieves a compositional balance of the time period she stood painting.

Jeanette signs her work: "Sebas" and the year. Named after the successful gallery she started, which she decided to close because there was no more time to create art. Jeanette sculpts and paints.

Jeanette Olyhoek

Netherlands Born in: 1957

Jeanette Olyhoek almost exclusively paints "en Plein air" coastal oil paintings. Most often from the dunes and the sea near Wassenaar, The Netherlands. But she also paints at every beach in the vicinity, such as Katwijk,  or Zeeland, The Netherlands and Normandy, France.

Jeanette also sculpts, using the Waist Direct method, a method in which you let yourself be guided by the stone and therefore never know exactly what will arise. When she dabbles in abstract painting, she uses this same method using sand, plaster and paints to create something intuitively. With only determining the colours pre-emptively. Continuing to create until everything comes into balance.

Balance in each composition, as understood as a sculptor, is evident in each of her paintings.
