Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska

Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska is a Polish artist. She lives and works in Berlin.

The artist studied painting and graphic art at the Fine Arts School in Krakow, she graduated in 1999. Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska settled down in Berlin, where she took lessons on the theory of painting at the University of Künste. Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska stood out during the Chelsea International Fine Art competition in 2010, with a jury made up of exerts of the Goggenheim Museum.

Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska mainly tackles human figures. She plays around with bodies and deforms them with agility. In her paintings, the characters take a break. Alone or in pairs, her painted figures are portrayed under unusual angles. The artist twists them around without actually giving a strange impression. Whether they are standing up, sitting or lying down, they experiment around peacefully and don't seem to be bothered by this treatment.

These forms are sensual and often naked. She colors them discreetly with layers, giving an impression of transparency or fusion. The colors are used with frugality and are summarized to highlight gestures and bodies.

Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska's work is represented in several private collections in Poland.
