Marco Barbon

Born in: 1972

Italy

Born in Rome in 1972, Marco Barbon now lives and works in Marseille. After his bachelors in Philosophy from the La Sapienza University in Rome and a PhD in Photography aesthetics from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales in Paris, he worked for four years as photo-editor for Magnum Photos and developed a personal artistic approach since 2005 through photography and video.

Marco Barbon's photographs are characterized by a desire to secure the short-lived, which can disappear at any moment. Balls, feathers of birds: the photographer likes to seize the moment where things spring up. The photos of this artist are like Haiku images or poem photos, a glorified version of the fleeting and fugitive- he seizes this through his Polaroid.
His vision is deeply influenced by western and ancient far east philosophy but also Zeno of Elea and Zen.

Although unique, his work reveals the discreet surrealism influence of Giorgio de Chirico or Yves Tanguy and their mysterious atmosphere. Marco Barbon's photos are indeed full of enigmas and depict unanswered questions.

Filigranes editions published his first monograph, "Asmara Dream" in 2009, followed by "Chronotopies" in 2010 from "Les pas perdus" (Poursuite, 2014) and "Asmara" (Be-Poles, 2014) to name a few of his works.

Mostly exhibited in France, Italy, Morocco, Barbon's photos have also appeared in La Republica, Libération, Le Monde 2, Dyptik and the Beaux-Arts Magazine.
