Jean-Baptiste Carhaix

Born in: 1946

France

Jean-Baptiste Carhaix is a French photographer, born in 1946. After her studies in modern and French literature, Jean-Baptiste Carhaix eventually turned towards a professional career in photography. His photos are very critical towards religion, especially Catholicism and addresses themes of death but with some humor, and excludes any form of voyeurism. For this, he followed and depicted a group of anti-religious gay activists in the 80's and 90's. Although, strongly criticized by several other communities and considered shocking by some spectators, Carhaix's photos have been exhibited in several private and public collections since the 80's.
