Jean-Pierre Roux

Jean-Pierre Roux

Born in: 1950

France

Born in Marseille in 1950, Jean Pierre Roux is a French photographer. He studied at the French Film Institute and at the Louis Lumiere College, where he followed the teachings of Willy Ronis on animated photography. His first photographic work in collaboration with Andre Labarthe was about the painter Soderborg. Together they made a photographic report published by Cimaise and shown during the Inauguration of the FIAC. During the 70s, he did his firsts photographic coverage of many rock bands. He followed the groups during their concerts and the festivals, and photographed future music legends including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The who, Hendrix, Zappa and the Rolling Stones. In 1976, he made his first road trip in the United States, where he witnessed the explosion of Pop Art and of hyperrealism. He had the chance as well, to be in Memphis the day Elvis Presley died, allowing him to immortalize this historical moment. On his return, Jean Pierre Roux published a book about his American journey. He entered the world of fashion and advertising and accompanied Johnny Thunders in one of his tours in order to make a documentary. Already close to the world of cinema, he directed his first short film in 1980, which was selected during the Chamrousse Festival. He started then a career as a director of advertisements and worked on several projects including the Water Ballet of Evian Babies. He has received several awards including the six Lions at the International Advertising Film Festival of Cannes, 2 "Stategie et Minerves" awards. He started realizing feature films with the help of Dennis Hopper for the film "The Target". In the last years, he returned to his passion for photography and decided to share some unpublished photographs of his rock and roll years.
