Louis Held

Germany Born in: 1851

Louis Held (* December 1st, 1851 in Berlin; † 17th of April 1927 in Weimar) was a German photo and film pioneer, who was mainly active in Weimar.

He is considered one of the first reportage photographers in Germany. He first made a name for himself as "Court photographer of his Royal Highness of Prince Arthur of Great Britain Duke of Connaught".

In 1896, he became famous for the Nietzsche archive designed by Henry van de Velde and made his way into the environment of modern designers.

Held was open to modern media and in 1910 began to also film documentaries and reportage films. Held dealt intensively with the possibilities of color film and patented a method of colorization of films in the mid-1920s.
