Michael Rees

Born in: 1962

United Kingdom

Michael Rees is an English painter, born in 1962. A self-taught artist, he began to paint as the years went by, with his wife Tracy Rees, also an artist and they developed their common passion for art. He grew up in Ipswich but has been living and working in Cornwall since 30 years. His atmospheric and psychological images depict unknown characters in landscapes without shades,in a dark ambience, while suggesting a subversive mind. His imagery is based on instinct and constraints. There are intriguing similarities with the cultural, social and psychological symbols of Art Brut, as promoted by Jean Dubuffet. He exhibits his work in England and USA.
