Marion Stille

Born in: 1952

Germany

Marion Stille was born in 1952 in Pritzwalk (Brandenburg) in Germany. From 1970 to 1973, she studied art history at the Humboldt University of Berlin. In 1975, she joined the College of Fine Arts in East Berlin Weißensee, and studied under the guidance of her teachers Hans Vent and Dieter Goltzsche.. In 1998, she studied fresco painting. She traveled to several countries during her studies: Poland, Hungary, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia... She has been working as an independent artist since 1980 and lives in Berlin. In 1975, Marion Stille gave birth to a daughter, Anna Luise, who become a key part of her work, as the artist took her as a model to paint the human body. However, at the time of Anna Luise's puberty, Marion Stille withdrew from investing her daughter's body and focused her work on natural elements like rivers (Fluss), mountains (berg), the forest (wald), sea (meer). Man is now physically absent from her paintings, but one can still perceive a hint of its presence in her work. His works are derived from her sensitive experience, her relationship with nature and its elements, and the topography of the latter is not identifiable. Marion Stille works with oil or tempera, she paints on canvases or thick cardboard. Her husband is a trumpeter, therefore music influences her painting a lot, in fact more than words. She works both in public and private spaces. Her work has mainly been exhibited in Germany but also in France, Bordeaux in 2011 and 2008 (Galerie MLS).
