Pol Bury

Born in: 1922

Translation in progress

Born in 1922 and died in 2005, Pol Bury was a Belgian painter and sculptor. His work has deeply marked the history of twentieth century Art.

Pol Bury was a multidisciplinary artist, who besides painting, drawing and sculpting, made jewelry, fountains and experimental short films. He was a talented writer as well. He became cinematoglyphe director at the Pataphysics College.

Still very young, he started doing a training in painting and drawing at the academy of Fine Arts of Mons. During his studies, he met the poet Achille Chavee, who was part of a Walloon Surrealist research group. He helped him join the group of artists. However the artist quickly gave up this artistic field in order to study the art of movement, specially through sculpture. His reliefs and his kinetic sculptures gave him worldwide fame.

During the 40s, he turned towards abstract painting, focusing on the study of color and shapes. He then joined the group Young Belgian Painting and later the group COBRA.
