"Jimny"
Alexandre Bavard

What is left of us at the dawn of our forgetfulness? Where does the end begin? Where does the beginning hide? Alexandre Bavard's work thwarts temporalities. He slips between the vestiges of a chimerical future and the hope of a mythified past. He declines forms and supports, escaping time, but also spaces, and even geography. Where does it come from? Is a leftover tire, a logoed T-shirt or a folk costume clues or enigmas? And what if the challenge of his work was precisely not to solve anything, not to question but to give free rein to the vertigo of interpretations.

Whether it is, among others, Transfr, Neo-k, or Neo-archeologia, the astonishment is the same. He who contemplates finds himself in the impossibility to apprehend the universe set up before his eyes. The forms, the colors, the images, are proposals of intensities which suit us or not, which cross us or not, but which open there, in front of us, without anything to understand, nor to dialectize. This is even more striking in his performances. Attending Bulky requires no special attention, no specific respect, no special understanding, verifiable, assessable, but even more pertinently, it's just a matter of being there, of risking ourselves to feel, of letting the electric current unfold within us. To be in the intoxication of a spirituality that precedes us, surpasses us. It is not a wise, erudite art, but an art that creates an outside, as Gilles Deleuze envisaged it, another world.

But perhaps another questioning emerges through these precious wanderings. It is the question of identity that we must face. When the language stutters, when the tones get tangled, when the signals get blurred, what becomes of us? Is it still possible to say "I"? The rules no longer apply and identity becomes a search that sometimes takes the form of a fight, a war to be fought through. The movements jerk, the dress becomes armor, the pieces break, his art is displayed as the place of a general disruption of the being, leaving us perplexed and therefore fascinated. Or better, fascinated because perplexed. This is the case of the ARMVR series, where everything seems to concur towards the same idea, the one that we must relearn, reorient what we think we know, consider objects, fabrics, materials differently, accept new consequences, and if they are improbable, so much the better. Fur, crochet, wool, plaster or metal? Where does solidity lie? Everything is worth. Everything is radical. Alexandre uses art to get out of art, to get out of oneself, to get out of norms, to get out of time, to get out of space. And to see, what is outside, and how this outside transforms us. To explore, deconstruct, dig into one's being to the point where the strange becomes the familiar.

Then in the light of these electric intensities, revolt emerges, provoking a Short Circuit. His pieces are not to be described, they are not spectres of catalog, they are audacities, equivocations, otherness, differences. Alexandre Bavard offers us this world to come. A world with an unexpected face. What remains of us at the dawn of our forgetfulness? The amplitude of an intensity that allows itself to be conquered.

Alexandre Bavard

Alexandre Bavard

France  • 1987

Born in 1987, lives and work in Paris.

Alexandre Bavard is based in Paris, France and is a Alumni of École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon. Alexandre Bavard can be seen as a playwright, and performer, all in one. His work expands from fine art sculpture, prints, and paintings into video, music and dance. Bavard creates various worlds influenced by his Georgian roots, science fiction, and for the need of escapism and discovery.

Bavard is interested in creating a visual language, a form of expression that transcends any specific medium, and is fueled by repetition, movement, and flow. His broad range of works are tied by the theme of a post-urban world, meaningful artifacts of a past utopia that its significance has long been lost and repurposed as rarity and artifact. Bavard has titled this series,

Neo-Archelogia, which refers to his process of casting the shape or transferring the impression of these found artifacts into sculptures and prints.
