Ad Astra
Madrid From December 17, 2021 to January 31, 2022
The art theorist Jacob Burckhardt understood art and other human productions as a link in the history of the world culture. He argued that the art of each period is a complete expression of the spirit in which it is produced, not unrelated to religion, the state or the interests of capital. Everything influences its manifestations being thus co-responsible for the development of history itself.
From this point of view, contemporary art and its different expressions are a faithful reflection of what today’s society is experiencing. The panorama shows a great diversity and comprises a very heterogeneous set of artistic practices as well as different approaches when it comes to delimiting the period it encompasses. To understand contemporary art is to understand conflicts, realities and societies and to know art unfailingly leads us to understand man.
As in James Gray’s film, AD ASTRA, the new exhibition at Galería Azur Madrid is an unexpected and metaphorical journey on the part of the spectator who overwhelmed by the diversity of style, travels through the images becomes a witness of an otherness or or many, at the same time that he is challenged by the critical spirit of the new contemporary expressions.
The fusion of artistic movements, the search for originality, the value of experimentation and processes and the creation of new processes and the creation of new discourses are part of the wide field of action that today is presented in the Gallery as a scheme that breaks with the artistic unity in a “spatial odyssey” that exposes more questions than answers in relation to artistic production.
