Hypnotic
Madrid From July 28, 2022 to August 22, 2022
Presentation
Relax. Feel every part of your body relaxed. Allow external thoughts to fade. Relax more and more. The body feels light. Go into a dream state. You are standing on the edge of a ladder. Ten. Take the first step down. Nine. Descend at your own pace. Eight. Feel the weight of your body. Seven. As you go down you are more relaxed. Six. Time passes slowly and very comfortably. Five. Four. Three. Go deeper and deeper. Two. One.
Swaying between science and entertainment, between scientific rigor and trickery, hypnosis has been practiced
for centuries to create a state of great mental concentration through the use of hands, fixing the gaze on a specific point or object, and voice modulation.
The Egyptians practiced it in "dream temples" and Franz Mesmer began to study it clinically in Vienna in the mid-eighteenth century. Within the literary genre, the dierent types of hypnotists respond to dierent facets of those who practiced it: the villain hypnotist, the scientist, and the esoteric alternated in stories and novels such as Trilby (1894) by George du Maurier, "The truth about the case Mr. Valdemar" (1845) by Edgar Allan Poe and "The Great Keinplatz Experiment" (1890) by Arthur Conan Doyle; all of them to reflect the fears of Victorian society.
In this opportunity, it is the curatorial story that sets out on a hypnotic tour, bringing together all kinds of unlikely experiences for its viewers, from a deep exploration of the various states of altered consciousness to the
dematerialization embodied in the art itself. The artists who are part of GALERIA AZUR 'Hypnotic' show, allow us to deal with formal and stylistic issues. Thor art induces us into a trance state, inviting us to wander around the
room, swinging from one work to another. Electromagnetic vibrations constantly flow through the entire brain creating thoughts from what is seen, to understand that the exhibition coexists in the mind of the viewer.
