  • About the artwork

    Artwork sold in perfect condition

'I wish he hadn’t said that' finds itself turned away, arms crossed. An urgent refusal to further bedazzle and embellish the canvas merely at the whims of the word ‘pretty’ spurs the rough edges of this painting. In so doing, 'I wish he hadn’t said that' refuses to co-exist with easy-to-look-at, pastel pink and cotton candy blue, but rather demands to be acknowledged as a rite of passage into that which is less palatable.

Genevieve Fatzer

South Africa Born in: 1998

Genevieve Fatzer is a multidisciplinary artist working predominantly in painting and printmaking. Her practice generally entails a focus on the relationship between the perceived hue of an object and the vibrancy amongst strong contrasts of tone. Her works include principles of formalism and emotive mark making which foreground questions of introspection and reflection. Born on the 10th of September 1998 in Pretoria South Africa, Fatzer was brought up in a diverse environment with euro centric family ties. These diverse cultural links heavily influenced Fatzer's interest towards the arts which lead her to pursue her artistic career by studying Fine Arts at Stellenbosch University. Currently, she is set to embark to the Netherlands to complete her Masters degree in Arts & Society.
