'Think for a moment before entering the blue-filled universe. It means that nothing is predictable in our world, where everything corresponds to our senses. The terrifying truth that we cannot even predict the nearest future approaches us as an illusion of stability and tilts our minds. We will have to endure and not waste the splendid time of life in which our souls and senses accompany us.'

I would like to see the above miscellaneous texts as the struggle of an artist who wants to practice the truth that the better the writing, the shorter and more concise. Anyway, for a short period of time, I have been persistently insisting on the rather obvious slogan of 'pictures to see rather than pictures to read'. It was once published in the name of an award review by a foundation with a strangely poignant sentence, 'I think I'm trying to deviate from the trend with a strong image, but it's a bit banal, so it's a pity'. There is no such thing, so I remember saying, 'I guess it's just like that'. However, I would like to emphasize that the 『TRUE-BLUE (2021~)』 series is a crystal that completely contains the concentration and envy of the pure substance itself of painting.

The title "TRUE-BLUE" was named on several solid grounds. First, blue has long been considered a color symbolizing fidelity. Second, it is also a term for a person with an attitude that does not bend his beliefs, and it is consistent with my worldview in which I do not want to be caught up in a trend that will stay for a while and disappear.

Let me try to speak in a more realistic language. Just as magnesium deficiency provokes a bodily reaction called convulsions under the eyes, the old feeling of inferiority towards a specific color is embodied as a will to overcome through painting, and that color is blue. Going back to the days of my apprenticeship, I came to the question, “Why have I never been proud of blue?” There was no particular reason, but strangely it was.

Humans instinctively avoid fear. So, on the one hand, it can be said that my sixth sense has done its job well. However, I have overcome fear by confronting it head-on rather than avoiding it through painting, so this time too, blue was the subject of overcoming. That's how the unexpected journey began.

For the past few years, I have focused on the originality of the material in order not to be swept away by the wave of universality of my work. Around that time, I witnessed that the unique heavy pressure emitted by blue acts as a neutralizer for the swirling scenery of Mother Nature. In a word, after finding the possibility that the audience could feel the sublime and awe, and the existence of Mother Nature, where fear coexists, can be solved with calmness, anxiety has rather solidified the justification for expression.

‘What if I had stopped here?’

It's a hypothesis that still dazzles me, but I have ventured beyond a farther sea full of uncertainty. As a result, I ended up throwing off the existing canvas frame and painting the paint I made myself on the solidly smelted aluminum plate. Ironically, I was drawing another wave to resist the wave of universality.

The process of exploring today's uncertainty will be recorded in seamless blue. When it comes to future steps, it's like the deep sea in a work where the depth of the water is unknown, so I can't say for sure. One thing is for sure, though, is that you are ready to push yourself a little harder. Now, let's row.
