Another painting from the series ”Holding Pattern” Ammil encapsulates my fascination with the environment. At first, plants, trees, flowers, nature completely overwhelmed my senses. As a visual artist, they permeated my observations. Then slowly, in photographing my surroundings every day, I eagerly started noting more and more their precise detail and organic beauty. These works evolved into shape and colour that is reminiscent of the natural world but suggests a deeper essence of the emotions and thoughts the ever-changing world around us evokes.

Syndi Kahn lives in the Cape Winelands (in South Africa) with her husband and two young sons. She graduated in 1996 from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT in Cape Town, worked in graphic design in London and Cape Town and now works as a full-time artist.
