Biography
Born in 1989, artist Paul Riedmüller lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
Through his work, he explores the shifting boundary between reality and the virtual world. "I want to maintain a connection with the 'real world,' and yet I constantly question what is real," he says.
His paintings reflect both the aesthetics of digital imagery and the endless stream of visual information we are confronted with.
Inspired by his observations of everyday life – nature, city streets and small, often overlooked details – he plays with perception and illusion through trompe-l'oeil techniques, in the tradition of Baroque painters.
But rather than a meditation on mortality, his work questions how we navigate a world shaped by computer-generated images, deepfakes, and infinite simulations.
With this approach, Paul Riedmüller invites us to take a closer look and reconsider what we hold to be real.
