Maxwell is a visual artist. His work involves the shaping of the material but above all the very choice of the material is at the center of his creative process.
Biography
After starting his career as an expatriate engineer in the United States, he left his job and returned to France to make a living from his art.
Maxwell creates sculptures, but more than a sculptor, he must be described as a visual artist. His work involves the shaping of the material - manual, often long and meticulous - but above all the very choice of the material is what is at the center of his creative process.
The ideas it evokes, whether raw or already manufactured, allow the development of the final work, both in terms of the form it will take and the technique to be used to achieve it.
If plastic art evolves, Maxwell's inspirations and favorite themes remain the same: farce and the playful world of childhood, modernity and criticism of society, violence and suffering, death, art .
With Maxwell, the themes collide and the viewer often hesitates between smiling and grimacing.
