Mireille Mardero

France • 1967

Biography

In 1998, she followed the Cours Renaissance training and evening classes at the Ecole Boulle. Having become an independent artist, she quickly collaborated with decorators who offered her the opportunity to create large-scale decorative works.

His meeting with Laurent Lévêque, in 2010, who introduced him to straw marquetry, an art which consists of smoothing and gluing pieces of rye straw onto a support, marked a turning point in his artistic career.

Mireille Mardero creates unique objects (tables, screens, paintings, etc.) and, more particularly, “Totems" covered in straw marquetry. She transforms this natural raw material that is straw into an abstract and poetic work.

Geometric abstractions, impossible constructions, color patterns combining checkerboards, diamonds, and play of stripes, cover his creations in metal or wood, giving these rigid forms an unexpected delicacy and fragility. Nature and architecture are his main sources of inspiration.

Intense and elegant works leaving us free to see, to interpret, and above all to feel.

“Art is beautiful when the hand, the head and the heart work together." John Ruskin
